Ellagance Purple is an heirloom lavender variety that thrives in full sun and prefers well-draining, sandy, or gravelly soil. The plant attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. After flowering, prune regularly for bushier growth. This will also prevent the plants from becoming too woody. This variety is particularly fast-growing compared to other lavenders, producing blooms in its first year from seed.
Plant lavender in late fall/winter in SWFL. The best growing temperatures range from 70-75 F. Since lavender is sensitive to excessive moisture, it is important to plant it in well-draining soil to prevent root rot. Ellagance Purple lavender requires minimal watering, as overwatering is one of the most common reasons lavender fails. Water only when the soil is completely dry, as established plants are highly drought tolerant. Be careful with fertilizing, as too much nitrogen can encourage excessive leafy growth at the expense of flowers. If grown in containers, choosing terra cotta pots can help improve drainage and reduce excess moisture.
